Doctor Bedi MBBS

After 6 years of stinging the Club for discounts, Nishant has - at last - passed his exams. From Graduation Day on 11 July Nishant officially becomes Doctor Bedi MBBS, having gained his BSc in Clinical Materials with honours the preceeding year. His badminton has steadily improved too. The downside is we will lose him for a year whilst he takes up a post in Chelmsford. Congratulations Nish, and come to Northwood whenever you can.

Is this the best kept secret in Northwood Badminton Club?

Andy Kostynowicz, at the tender age of 50, shot off to Sri Lanka late last year to secretly marry his Sri Lankan heart-throb beauty. Yes, he really did, inheriting 4 children in the process. Did anyone hear him say he no longer has the energy to create his own children? Anyway, his wife is good-looking, good fun and we will all see her soon. Her name - Gayatri. Congrats Andy.

Northwood Mens make the 1st Division of Middlesex!!!

For the first time, Northwood has managed to put a mens team in the top division of Middlesex. After winning the Hertfordshire 1st division this is the next step to taking the club to the highest level.

Good news so far

  • Daryl Jacobs becomes England U18 Singles Champion – and Doubles Champion too.
  • Northwood BC become Herts Mens County Div 1 Champions 2007.
  • Northwood BC’s Ladies 4 were promoted to Hammersmith Div 1.
  • NBC Club Membership for the 2007-2008 season appears buoyant, and all being well we can expect about 55 members by April.

Fund raising events

  • A New Raffle to help Club funds with various prizes. Four held so far.
  • Northwood BC CAR BOOT SALE. TBA.

Social gatherings so far this season have included

  • Bonfire night.
  • The Christmas Bash.

Additional items

  • A Fixtures Chart should be on display at Club Night.
  • A series of training/practise sessions should now be in place generally on Saturdays between 1-3 pm at Northwood using 1 court.
On those occasions where NBC only has 1 Home match
4-6 pm on a Sunday the Training / Practise Sessions could occupy the 4th court.
(£4 per person for courts & shuttles is suggested.)
  • Make sure you read the attached Northwood BC Roadmap – the Club’s Objectives for the next 2-3 years. It's ambitious, but entirely achievable and will all be done hopefully without upsetting the Status Quo.
  • Northwood Junior Badminton Club has acquired funding for a high resolution video camera with extra slow play-back to assist in training. It can be made available for senior club players use so if you want to see how silly you look on court when slowed down with the pained expressions caught in detail then request a demo.
